Solving the case
Although Jonestown was a mass murder or "mass suicide" as Jim wanted it to be, there really was not a case to be solved. Survivors got out and told authorities as soon as it happened. The day after, a helicopter showed up getting graphic pictures of the dead bodies on the ground. No blood, just bodies from drinking the cyanide-lased kool-aid. There were 913 total deaths, including 276 children. Autopsies showed that people were forcibly held down and injected with the drink. They used syringes to put the kool-aid into babies mouths. Jim wanted this to be a statement to the people that they were "one" and if he committed suicide, they would too. He even had mock suicides were people would have to act as though they were all drinking the beverage to show loyalty to his cult. Leslie Wilson (and 9 others) escaped with her child by hiking 30 miles through forest and getting on a train. Many of the other survivors did the same thing. They ran until they could find a village or a highway and stopped people asking for help.
