Summary
Jim Jones, the leader of his own church, "Peoples Temple" and he started it with his wife Marceline Jones in Indiana. This church started out as non-denominational, but as years passed, Jim Jones compared Peoples Temple to the Disciples of Christ and soon compared himself to Jesus Christ as a leader. As Peoples Temple grew, Jones gained hundreds of followers and soon moved from Indiana to California because Peoples Temple was under investigation. In California, Jones gained thousands more followers and started losing control. He decided to move Peoples Temple again, but this time he moved countries. Jim Jones and his followers moved to Guyana, South America and created an entire town from nothing called Jonestown. There were about 900 of his followers that followed Jones to South America and on November 18, 1978, Jim Jones conducted a mass suicide of himself and all his followers. This was conducted because a congressman came to Jonestown and inspected Jonestown because it was under suspicion for cult-like activity. Jones killed the congressman, and after that, he mixed Kool-Aid with Valium, cyanide, chloral hydrate, and Phenergan. After doing this, Jim Jones gave this drink to all of his followers, killing all of them, and even himself.
